Native Youth
This is a brand new page added to Indian Rodeo
News. Our goal here is to recognize all Indian children and
teenagers who ride horses, rodeo, ranch, and kids who participate in
taking pictures at events.
Each month starting with December 2002 we will try
to feature a Indian Youth who is active in riding horses, rodeo,
ranching, and photography.
Do you know a
Native Indian Youth who has worked hard to achieve their goals and
accomplishments? Would you like to be featured as a Native Youth
role model? Any Native youth ages 18 and under can be
featured.
Indian Rodeo News asks for you to send in your story about yourself, who
inspired you to ride, rodeo, ranch, etc. We
welcome as many pictures you have to share with our readers. Email
your questions and or story to
Gina@indianrodeonews.com

When you grow up and graduate from school, what are your plans for your profession?
My plans are to go to a two year college and complete my basics and apply to New Mexico State University to their Civil Engineering program and graduate with a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering. And rodeo in between the hard work.
Do you plan to attend college, if so, what is your major? See Above
If you could give advice to another Native youth on how to get started doing what you are involved with, what advice would you give them?
Always:
<Be courteous and considerate
<Set and achieve your goals
<Stay in school
<Appreciate your parents
<Practice Hard and do not give up
<Have Faith
If you were granted one wish, what would it be? It would be to finish college.
What would you do to educate others about being a Native American Youth from your tribe? I would promote the youth thru the junior rodeos, because these are the areas in which many disciplines are learned such as good sportsmanship, learning and knowing your culture because horses and cattle are part of our culture; being responsible are all apart of learning and growing.
What events in rodeo are you involved in? (If you travel with your Mom and Dad at rodeos, please explain what your responsibilities are)
My events in rodeo are the Tie Down Roping and Team Roping for now in the High School rodeos. For the past two years, we ( the Pablo family) went down the road pretty hard following the New Mexico High School Rodeo Association. In between the fall rodeos and the spring rodeos, i played football and basketball. So it was pretty hectic in juggling football or basketball practices and even roping practices were squeezed in there somehow; Getting home and doing chores, and maintaining an "A" grade point average of 3.67. I studied in between all the activities. And when ever
I had a football game the horse trailer with horses and the family would be ready when we finished a game. I really had to be prepared for the long hauls and ready to rope, usual the next morning. If we had to travel most of the night to get to a rodeo, my family was there.
What achievements have you made in your even you compete in ? Currently, I am sitting 2nd in the state of New Mexico in the Tie Down Roping: our state finals is this weekend and it looks like we off to Nationals in Gillette, WY.
What are your future goals in your events you participate in? I would like to compete competitively in the Indian Rodeo circuit and also at the collegiate level if possible. it would be great to also qualify for the Nationals for both levels. I do ride a great horse and I believe I have the ability to achieve such level of competition.
Who is your ultimate hero? That would be Grandma Lilly. She has done everything she can
possibly do to make things right. Her support throughout my elementary and High School years were great and always there. Thanks Grams!
Within the Rodeo world: Who is your ultimate favorite cowboy and or cowgirl? My favorite cowboy is Cody Ohl, He is a great calf roper and i would like to break his record of 6.5, and if not at least share it with him. Favorite cowgirl is my sister" April Pablo", she does breakaway, and when she is on she is "ON", being at the "2" zone is her
specialty.
