Rodeo News Readers:
Hello
All! I hope every ones Fourth of July went well. I have
some of the results re: 4th and prior to the fourth. Good Luck
Cowboys on your ProRodeo Trail! I would like to get a line or
two from each Cowboy- What I would like to do is a ProRodeo
Smoke Signalz- And list your line to your sponsors and your
families and fans. Every year a cowboy will leave home not
return until late fall ... following his dream of rodeo...If you
don't know it... It gets awfully lonely out there... especially when
cowboys are travel ling with friends or cowboys he just met. I think
the movie "8 Seconds" gave the impression that rodeo was all
fun and games.. When in fact... Its is hard to discipline you
self for practice, rest and keeping oneself healthy...
ProRodeo Cowboys these days are walking "Bill Boards" to
their sponsors. I am thankful for "Good Ole Country Folk...
When I rodeo'd .. And I had a flat tire or truck problems, there was
always a nice cowboy to help me out... Not that I was a
"Danzel in Distress" But I think I have always
been a nice person to all. In return.. when I left a rodeo, and
If I seen a group of roughstock riders standing at the rodeo
contestant exit gate.. I would load em all up and take whom ever to
the airport or to my next show... I think that was the
nice thing to do... Well Cowboys Ride hard and be safe y'all!

Xmas
Bonus
There
may not be snow on the ground or elves at the mall, but that didn't
stop competitors like Dan Mortensen, Rod Hay and Rod Warren from
partaking in some early Christmas cheer last weekend. The eggnog is on
Warren
.
COLORADO
SPRINGS
,
Colo.
— Canadian saddle bronc rider Rod Warren will go down in the history
books as the PRCA contestant that won the most money during the 2005
Cowboy Christmas campaign.
Warren
(Big Valley, Alberta) won $22,441 to outdistance timed event
all-around hand Ryan Jarrett (Summerville, Ga.), who pocketed $19,343
in steer wrestling and tie-down roping, seven time world champion Dan
Mortensen who finished third with $18,447, fellow Canadian saddle
bronc rider Rod Hay with $18,415, and three-time World All-Around
Champion Trevor Brazile with $17,808.
Warren
's
biggest paycheck came at the Greeley Independence Stampede, where he
finished third in the average. He won the first round with an 87-point
ride on Beutler and Son Rodeo's
Rodeo Drive
for $6,618, and he picked up another $3,750 for the average. All
totaled, he left
Greeley
$10,368 richer.
Warren
picked up another check worth $6,345 at the Cody (
Wyo.
) Stampede after finishing tied for second with an 82-point score
aboard Sankey Rodeo's Solo. He added another $1,143 in Window Rock,
Ariz.
, after posting an 80 aboard Andrews Rodeo's Jet Ski, which was good
enough for a fourth-place tie.
The
remainder of his money came North of the border, with him winning the
Williams Lake Stampede in Williams Lake, British Columbia, with a
score of 84 points and a check totaling $4,179. He picked up the final
$406 in
Airdrie
,
Alberta
.
Last
year,
Warren
made his ninth appearance at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo and
won his second consecutive saddle bronc riding average title with
757.5 points on 10 head.
Warren
became the first saddle bronc rider since Monty Hawkeye Henson
(1984-85) to win back-to-back Wrangler NFR average titles.
Ryan
Jarrett, the young timed-event hand from
Georgia
, tremendously helped his chances of qualifying for his first Wrangler
NFR. Jarrett finished his 2005 Cowboy Christmas campaign $19,343
richer. Unlike Warren, who won all his money in one event, Jarrett
used his skills in steer wrestling and tie-down roping to collect his
money in just four rodeos. His biggest check came in
Cody
,
Wyo.
, after tying Brazile for the tie-down roping title. Jarrett and
Brazile both roped and tied their calves in 8.3 seconds and walked
away with a check worth $8,101. Jarrett also collected checks in
Greeley
,
Colo.
;
St. Paul
,
Ore.
; and
Prescott
,
Ariz.
Seven-time
world champion Mortensen (
Billings
,
Mont.
) finished third in this year's Cowboy Christmas earnings with
$18,447. In 2004, Mortensen was the big money winner during the
Independence Day holiday with $26,415. He had planned to travel with
Cody Martin over the Fourth of July, but had to change his plans.
Martin, who broke his leg the end of April in Clovis, Calif., was not
ready to return to the arena, so Mortensen decided to have his father,
Don, travel with him.
Mortensen
won the
St. Paul
(
Ore.
) Rodeo with an 86-point ride on Rosser Rodeo's Smokin Smurf and
picked up his biggest check for the week worth $10,018. He also won
money in
Greeley
,
Colo.
;
Molalla
,
Ore.
; and
Oakley
,
Utah
.
Hay
(Wildwood,
Alberta
) collected his money at five rodeos, with his biggest check totaling
$7,501 in
Greeley
,
Colo.
He won the average title at the Ponoka Stampede in
Ponoka
,
Alberta
, and pocketed $6,286. He finished his run by picking up checks in
Airdrie
,
Alberta
;
Oakley
,
Utah
; and Williams Lake, British Columbia.
Brazile's
biggest check ($8,101) came in
Cody
,
Wyo.
, after he tied for the average in tie-down roping. He picked up
another $6,009 in
Prescott
after he and team roping partner Michael Jones won the average with a
total time of 10.7 seconds on two head. Brazile also won money in
Window Rock,
Ariz.
, and
Pecos
,
Texas
.
Saddle
bronc rider Cody Wright, who won the Pace Picante ProRodeo Chute-out
in
Reno
last month, didn't have the Cowboy Christmas he was hoping for. Wright
(
Milford
,
Utah
) suffered a broken leg during the Cody (
Wyo.
) Stampede, bringing his season to an abrupt halt.
