Miss
Indian Rodeo 1997
Perrie Whidden
Seminole Tribe of Florida
Perrie Whidden was crowned as Miss Indian Rodeo 1997 at the
Indian National Finals Rodeo in Saskatchewan. It was the
first time in Indian Rodeo History that someone from the South had the
privilege to win this title.
Perrie still supports Indian girls who want to be a rodeo queen.
She strongly advises Indian rodeo queens to be proud of who they are as
a Native American.
Perrie in her own words of advice to girls who want to be a rodeo queen:
"Our Indian girls
should have the some opportunities that a state rodeo queen title
holder should have. Then we may have more of your Indian girls wanting
to run for the state rodeo queen. Every young women should have the
chance to be a State rodeo queen or Miss Indian Rodeo if she
chooses. "
Perrie is a enrolled member of the Seminole Tribe of Florida,
she currently lives on the reservation and still participates in
rodeo. She is married to Koty Brugh and they are expecting a baby
in the spring of 2003.
We would like to list a link
to the Seminole web site that features Perrie as Miss Indian Rodeo
1997.
Miss Rodeo Florida 1997
Perrie Whidden
Not only was Perrie Miss Indian Rodeo 1997, she went on to win the state
title of Miss Rodeo Florida. She was the only Native American to
compete at the Miss Rodeo America pageant in 1998.
Perrie serves as a role model for future Indian rodeo queens and
princesses with her rodeo pageantry experience. The last Native
American girl to win a state rodeo queen title and compete in the Miss
Rodeo America pageant which is held in conjunction with the National
Finals Rodeo, was a lady who won Miss Rodeo Oregon, we have heard this
was in the 60's, but are trying to confirm and hope to have her picture
and bio in our Rodeo Queens section.
Perrie has leather dresses for sale, see the add in the Trading
Post.
Please email us with your profile and picture. We
encourage all rodeo queens to submit something for future young Indian
ladies who would like to become a rodeo queen or princess and we all
know that starting out as a princess is good experience. Rodeo
