Riding her horse Comanche

BIO
Name: Henny Bruisedhead
Age: 21 (according to Henny)
Family: My daughter "Dovelyn"
Marital Status: Single
Educational Background: 2 years of college, general studies,
attended college on full rodeo scholarships. She has
been working the last 5 years as a attendant for her community
ambulance, she is trained to fight fires, structure and grass
fires.
Pets: "I have 3 dogs, several horses including Comanche,
and am training 3 colts for hazing, and break
away"
Member of: " I am a member of the Blood
tribe" and a member of the NANCA, PIRA and IRCA".
Rodeo Accomplishments: "Cowgirl of the Year for Indian
Rodeo News.com, since Dovelyn was born, in 92, I have
qualified for every INFR, I qualified in 92 for INFR but I did
not compete because I was expecting my daughter" .
When did you start an interest in rodeo? "I was
born with it, I was saddling my own horses and riding before kindergarten,".
Do you have a lucky piece that you carry with you when you
compete? "no"
What sports other than rodeo to you enjoy?
"Hockey, I have my own team, and we play in Ft. McLeod
we need more teams to play against, the wives get together for
one hour each week, while the husbands stay home and take care
of the kids, this give the wives and women a chance to get out
and enjoy the game".
What is the funniest thing that you have seen or experience at a
rodeo?
"This year at INFR, my brother Ivan, he injured
his thumb when steer wrestling, he walked up to me and he
couldn't move his thumb, so I looked at it, tried to move it
around and while doing this, his thumb popped back in to place,
the look on Ivan's face was like he was going to black out, he
then walked away, walked over to the paramedics and got ice on
it, but it was fine after I popped it back in to place"
. Also, at INFR this year, during the
first round, I watched Clint and Ivan mug the rodeo clown, they
ran out in the arena, Clint grabbed the clown while Ivan took
the T-shirts the clown was throwing out, it happened so fast, I
don't think anyone was able to get a picture but that sure was
funny".
What Indian cowboy or cowgirl
influenced you to rodeo?
"My Mom and Dad" my Mom qualified in the National
Finals Rodeo during her day, she did not compete because she
would have had to use my Dad's bull dogging horse, that is the
horse she barrel raced on, both of them to this day, rodeo
together in the Senior rodeos, my Dad placed 3rd in the average
at the National Sr Pro Finals".
What advice would you give to a Indian kid, who wanted to learn
to rodeo, ride horses, or ranch, but the kid doesn't come from a
rodeo or ranching family?
" Encourage them to get involved in a riding
program. On our reserve we have programs for kids just
like this, we work with the kids, the ages range from 4-18 years
old, we start out by having a horse on one side of the fence and
the kids on the other, they're pretty nervous about going up to
the horse, even though it's on the other side, eventually they
become familiar and comfortable with the horse, and then next
thing you see, they're brushing and petting the horse. We
explain to the kids about feeding, and general care of
horses. The first thing we tell the kids is SAFETY FIRST,
so they learn to be careful when around horses and a rodeo
arena. We even had prizes to give out to the kids who got
involved in contests, it's great to see them be involved and
want to come back to learn more, they're still learning, and not
at the stage to be involved with Wright's youth rodeo programs,
but they'll eventually get there, with our help".
Is there any songs that inspire you before you ride or rope? "
I just like to visit with everybody".
What would you like to see more at Indian Rodeo's?
More activities for kids. I travel with my daughter all
the time, and when we get to a rodeo and there isn't anything
for her to do, or be involved in like a calf scramble, or youth
rodeo events, it's hard on the kids, because they have nothing
to do, there is a lot of adult events, but not a whole lot for
families. Maybe a good suggestion for rodeo associations to have
dummy roping for the kids, things like this to keep kids
involved when traveling to rodeos. INFR this year at the
casino, there was not a lot of places to take our kids to eat,
the restaurant at the casino closed early, so parents asked them
to stay open later, so we could feed our children, they kept the
restaurant open later, so that was nice, but, again, there
wasn't other events for the kids to be involved in."
Henny asked us to let her supporters and fans know that
she appreciates everyone and wanted to thank everyone who voted
for her. And she is looking forward to seeing you
all next year 2003!!

I would like to nominate Miss
Henny Bruisedhead for Cowgirl of the Year. She shows good
Sportsmanship and she has this unbelieveable talent. She comes
from a good family that loves to Rodeo. She is a role model for
the youth in her community. She travels far and near to represent
herself and where she comes from the Blood Tribe. If you see her
at any rodeo she always has a smile for everyone. She deserves to
